Tuesday, September 1: Cash Cart

Based on the Discovery Channel’s Cash Cab, take a ride on UPB’s cash cart! Watch out for the golf cart on the quad and answer some trivia questions to win great non-cash prizes while getting a free ride to your class or your residence hall

Wednesday, September 2: All American Cook Out

If you have the back –to- school blues, don’t worry! Summer isn’t over yet! Join the UPB and send the summer season off with a bang…literally. Come enjoy a free backyard BBQ meal, watch The Sandlot, and then see a spectacular fireworks show on Illinois State’s own football field! Bring your friends, your kids, and a blanket and get ready for a fun neighborhood event that will say goodbye to the summer and hello to the new school year.

Come join the UPB for Free Bowling & Billiards at the BBC and listen to some great karaoke. When you are done with your game, head on over to the Student Service Building and get your munchies on by enjoying the free food at Midnite Munchies!

Thursday, September 10: Late Nite Rec

Late Night Rec is back again! Come out to Horton Fieldhouse and play some games, including basketball and volleyball.  Bring a friend or meet a new friend, and come enjoy the first of many Late Night Recs!

Friday, September 18: Pig Out with the Prez

Pig Out with the Prez! Be sure to stop by and “Pig out” at our FREE Pig Roast and get a chance to hang out with President Bowman along with other Illinois State University VIPs. Vegetarian food options are available.

Tuesday, September 22: Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week: Shack A Thon

Think you know what it’s like to be homeless? Guess again. Get a team together and compete on the quad to see who can build the biggest and most creative shack. Prizes will be given for various categories. To sign up come into the UPB office located on the first floor of the Bone Student Center.

Wednesday, September 23: Hunger Banquet

Based on the Oxfam America Hunger Banquet, this banquet is set to dramatize the unequal distribution of food in the world. The banquet will leave many people hungry, some with just enough to eat, and very few with full stomachs. Participants are randomly assigned to one of three socio-economic levels and are served dinners according to their lots. A panel of speakers ranging from professors and local organizations will be on hand to provide insight for this issue.

Morgan Spurlock, writer and creator of Super Size Me and 30 days, speaks on his experiences with the fast food industry. His unconventional tactics bring a fresh perspective on fast food and obesity in America. Join the UPB as Morgan Spurlock provides us with humor and fresh insights into American life.

For being a part of our ISU family, we want to meet your family. Come and join us at Miller Park Zoo for a day of fun. Please sign up in the UPB office or email RedbirdFamily@ilstu.edu.

Saturday, October 3: Tiki Party

Limbo, learn to hula, and soar along a 40 foot zip line at the UPB Tiki Party! Come join the UPB for a tiki themed night featuring a limbo contest, food, hula lessons, and an extreme island obstacle course.

Tuesday, October 6: Spirit Square

Want to show your support for ISU? Love to color? Then skip on over to the quad to decorate your own square on the sidewalk! Show your creativity and spirit for ISU!

Wednesday, Octobe 7: Comedy Club

School got you down? Come relax and laugh at UPB's comedy club! Tonight we are featuring Michelle Buteau who is a no-holds barred comic you may have seen on MTV, VH1, Oxygen, HGTV, and Bravo. You can catch her on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend"/ where she also interviewed the host, Damon Wayans, for Comedy Central's website. Check her out here. Thursday, October 8: Homecoming Rock Can Roll

To get the Homecoming spirit rocking, we are proposing a challenge..How talented are you? How good are you at building sculptures out of donated food materials? We invite students, registered student organizations, faculty, and staff to show us their abilities to obtain donations and build a rockin’ masterpiece. Donations can go to a local food pantry. Check the UPB website for an application!

Friday, October 9: World Series of Pop Culture

Do you ever wonder if all of that useless trivia you know will ever get you anywhere? Bring a team of four to the University Program Board’s World Series of Pop Culutre and test your knowledge against your fellow students. There will be a broad range of trivia topics and plenty of games to play while waiting for your chance to compete. Please register in the UPB office or email RedbirdSymposium@ilstu.edu.

Monday, October 12: Homecoming Kickoff

Homecoming is back, and we’re starting this year with a bang! Come out and celebrate being a Redbird with free food and friends on the quad. Also, come cheer on your favorite band at the Battle of the Bands competition! What a great way to Rock the Red!

Tuesday, October 13: Team Competitions

Team Competitions is back! Grab some people from your RSO, your floor or even one of your coworkers and come on down to Horton to the Redbird Rumble. Register your team online today, and get ready for some serious competition!

Wednesday, October 14: RSO Carnival

To keep the homecoming spirit rollin’ we are going to rock out Wednesday night with a carnival! Fun activities ranging from henna tattoos, airbrushing, inflatables, and caricature artists will be included in this festival!

Friday, October 16: Homecoming Traditional Events

Led by the Big Red Marching Machine, the Torchlight Parade walks through campus to gather participants for Redbird Hoopfest and Pep Rally events. The parade will begin in the quad and end at Redbird Arena. Homecoming royalty members will bear torches, and all are welcome to join in the festivities.

Wednesday, October 21: Save Darfur

Come see the movie “The Darfur Diaries” in which the people of Darfur speak out for themselves about their experiences, fears, and hopes for the future. You can also participate in a discussion after the movie about the issues presented in the film and send the president a postcard to alert him of how many people are concerned about the situation.

Thursday, October 29th: Short Film Festival

Have you ever dreamed of producing or starring in your own film? Would you like the opportunity to show off your hard work to an audience of viewers? Submit a short film to the UPB Short Film Festival! Anyone can submit a short film or video of any genre! Following the submission and reviewing of films, there will be a public viewing in Capen Auditorium. There will be more information to come about the criteria and deadline. Wednesday, November 4: Comedy Club (Dan Adhoot)

School got you down? Come relax and laugh at UPB’s Comedy Club! Tonight we are featuring Dan Ahdoot who has performed at more than 200 colleges around the country after graduating with honors as a premed student from Johns Hopkins University. His first big break arrived when he was the youngest finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Since then, his career has taken off at lightning speed. He has been seen on Comedy Central’s Premium Blen, ABC’s 20/20 with Barbara Walters and has opened for Lewis Black. Check him out here

Saturday, November 7: Family Weekend (Tailgate, Dale K)

Start your day off with tailgating on the practice football field. Come and enjoy various activities for all ages, and get some keepsakes along the way. To finish the night, come and be mesmerized with the hypnotist, Dale K.

Sunday, November 8: Family Weekend (Jazz Brunch)

End the exciting weekend, by joining us for a brunch before heading home. There will be food along with a performance by the ISU Show Choir. Tickets available for purchase at the Braden Box Office.

Monday, November 9: Gabriela Medina

Gabriela Garcia Medina is an international spoken word artist and award winning poet. She has performed at Colleges, Festivals, and Conferences all over the world. Check her out at her here.

Thursday, November 12: Late Nite Rec

Are you tired of sitting around and doing the same old thing? Late Nite Rec offers students the opportunity to get their blood pumping! From 10 pm until 1 am students have the chance to use the facilities offered in Horton Fieldhouse to play a variety of games including dodgeball, basketball, and even volleyball! Bring a friend or two and enjoy what Late Nite Rec has to offer! Don’t stay in bed on this night, because this is the last Late Nite Rec of the semester!

Friday, November 13: Late Nite Laser Tag

Join the UPB for a night of exciting sports and fun! This FREE event will feature laser tag, arcade games, human bowling, and more!

Monday, November 16: Dinner with President Bowman

Want to have dinner with President Bowman? You, a friend, and 22 other lucky students could win a free dinner with President and First Lady Bowman. Come to UPB events between now and Oct. 22nd to win. The sign-up for the raffle will be at random UPB events, so the more events you come to, the better you chance will be for winning. Just look for a very colorful box. The winners will be chosen on Oct. 31st and they will receive an e-mail from President Bowman.

Tuesday, November 17: Classic Movie Night

Come one, come all to the University Program Board’s Classic Movie Night! Be swept away into another world as you view a well-known classic film. Also, enjoy free snacks throughout the movie. Get ready to let your imagination run wild, and away we go!

Semester-Wide: V.I.P.s (Very Important Professors and Staff)

Calling all faculty and staff members! Have you ever wanted to be a VIP? You can now! If you simply announce campus events in your class rooms or offer extra credit to some of the educational events, you can be nominated to be a VIP. We will hold a monthly random drawing and the selected winner will receive a free lunch donated by a local restaurant.

Date TBD: Dinner with President Bowman

At random events this semester leading up to the event, students will have the opportunity to enter a raffle to have dinner with President Bowman at his house! 12 students will be randomly selected and they are invited to bring a friend along. So make sure you are attending all our events because you never know which one will have the drawing!!
